The Studio is a prototype and continuation of The Glasshouse, a modular construction featuring a wooden umbrella-structure frame made of standard materials used in non-standard ways. Floating on a nine-square grid with a footprint of just 24x24, it sits perched in nature on the edge of a stream in Chilmark, Massachusetts.

Earth, fire, wind and water are elemental to our existence. When asked to create an outdoor shower for a former woodshop-turned-residence, we looked to the elements of nature to construct a bathing space that respects its environment and crafts an experience. We turned to the forest, the boundary upon which the shower is placed, and allowed nature to dictate our material palette. Using wood in many forms, we created a cedar wind and privacy screen, a board formed concrete wall, and tied it all together with a custom-steel framed cordwood. The result is an immersive, sensorial bathing experience within nature.

The Shop was originally an active workshop to repair sailboats on Martha's Vineyard. In 2019, our renovation transformed it into a residential space. The spirit of the original concept of a workshop remains alive in The Shop.

The Glasshouse on Martha's Vineyard was originally designed by Chester Wisniewski, an apprentice to Frank Lloyd Wright, professor at Cooper Union for over two decades, and founder of Davis, Brody and Wisniewski (now Davis, Brody, and Bond).Renovation and restoration of the structure is a constant process, as maintaining a glass building on the island is no easy task. The result, however, is a beautiful living space that blurs the boundaries between outside and inside.

Designed for an alpine site on Skuta Mountain in Slovenia, this cabin offers an intimate refuge for eight visitors nestled in the scenic Alps. The building shifts its roof line like a series of mountain peaks, shedding snow and framing distant scenes. The design minimizes environmental impacts: visually, gray, glass reinforced concrete cladding blends into the mountain’s stone, and performatively, natural ventilation, robust insulation for cold nights, and a lack of electricity preserve the shelter’s natural setting. In contrast to the thick gray cladding of the exterior, the interior is a warm wood. Sited in the Slovenian Alps, the bivouac is a shifting series of peaks, blending seamlessly with the surrounding environment and providing scenic views for mountaineers who venture inside.Collaboration with OFIS Arhitekti, Frederick Kim, Katie MacDonald, AKT II, Rieder Smart Elements, and the Harvard Graduate School of Design.

The schoolhouse, now known as 'Thingo Kids Preschool' serves a mixed-income neighborhood in Cosmo City, Johannesburg. It is the first early childhood education center in the community where most children are sent to crèches (daycares) that lack in resources and academic curriculum. It accommodates 80 children and houses a teacher-training center. The school is a product of a two year process orchestrated by Cornell University Sustainable Design, an interdisciplinary student-led organization at Cornell University. Students, with the help of academic advisors and industry professionals, executed the project through a semester of research, a semester of design development integrated into the Bachelor of Architecture comprehensive design studio curriculum, and three months of construction.
